"GOPHERS TROUNCE ASIAD HOPEFULS"
(HONG KONG STANDARD - Wednesday, November 18)
Minnesota senior Miles Tarver and Andy Seigle of the Philippines were both
ejected after a shoving match turned into a fist fight with 16:17 to play in
the
first half.
Tarver and Seigle exchanged words near the Minnesota bench and had to be
separated. On the next trip down the floor, a fight erupted between the two
players directly in front of the Philippine bench and the melee ensued.
Minnesota freshman Terrance Simmons also was ejected for joining in the
scuffle.
No players appeared to be hurt during the fight.
The Gophers led 7- at the time of the altercation, but then went on a 16-5 run
to open a 23-10 lead at the midway point of the first half.
The Philippines pulled within 30-26 at the 5:20 mark, but Minnesota scored 16
of
the final 20 points for a 46-30 lead at halftime.
Minnesota led by as many as 44 points in the second half.
Kenneth Duremdes finished with 12 points to lead the Philippines, who are
